In my real job I work on AI and national security policy at the Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET), a policy research organization at Georgetown University that I helped found in 2019. Before moving to DC I lived in Beijing for most of 2018, doing intensive language study and learning about the Chinese AI ecosystem. Before that, I worked as a senior research analyst at Open Philanthropy.

I've started this Substack as an experiment where I'll think in public, share more speculative ideas, and write on topics that aren't squarely within CSET's focus on national security. I'll continue to publish rigorous, objective, carefully reviewed, high-quality work with CSET. Everything else will go here.
